Yahoo recently announced a new feature that will allow users to search for lyrics of music from their site. Yahoo has acquired a license for the tonne of artists from a variety of different record labels. In exchange for the permitted use of music lyrics, Yahoo provides a portion of all advertising revenue derived from site to artists and record labels.

Some other music lyrics site owners worry that Yahoo’s new system will take most of their site traffic. One even suggested I contact the website that they will have to take additional approaches, such as offering a new mobile system based on the lyrics for mobile phone users, in response to the loss of advertising revenue because of Yahoo’s new music system of the lyrics. In addition, some websites are prohibited from posting the lyrics are a particular artist or band song because of copyright issues. Yahoo’s system is an attempt to get around this problem and offer music lyrics to every song the user wants to search.

Although Yahoo’s approach is an elegant solution, there are still some weaknesses in the system lyrics of their music. Part of the deal agreed by Yahoo and various records labels including requirements for all the lyrics in image format than pure text. This is mainly to prevent users from copying and pasting text and lyrics online to prevent robots from crawling their web pages with the sole intent to steal the lyrics text. It also has drawbacks, as mentioned above. Because the lyrics in image format, search engines will not be able to see the text in the lyrics, and a search where a user enters a verse from a favorite song they will not return results from Yahoo’s system. Yahoo lyrics search also suffers from the fact that the “typical” internet users just do not know about it. With Google search engine became king at this time, a good portion of internet users do not know that Yahoo is offering the system. These users will continue to look for lyrics of music as they always have in the past, through a typical Google search. This, coupled with the fact that 90% of search engine traffic comes from Google, will mean that although Yahoo’s system is a good approach, many online music lyrics sites will not be as hard hitting some have thought after the announcement of Yahoo. One thing is certain: unless Yahoo took over as king of search engines, most users will continue to find the lyrics online music in the same way they have been used in the past, through a Google

    If you mean you only want an mp3 of songs with only the singing…you will need special sound editting software. I don’t think there are any free websites that provide that.
