Poems have been written about almost every topic under the sun, and in addition to love and death, poems of friendship is the most frequently read, written, and divided in the world. Unfortunately, a beautiful poem written in friendship can often lead to misunderstandings when it sounded very much like a love poem.

Despite the confusion, some of the world’s greatest poets have written poetry friendship for a number of their closest acquaintances, professional colleagues or distant relatives. When a poet feels close to someone, the natural response is to write poetry.

What Makes A Special Friendship Poems

This is where the confusion arises when it can often explain the difference between poetry friendship and a love poem?. Love poems most often the result of emotion, extreme strong, written expression of almost intangible sensation of love. On the other hand, poetry friendship more subdued, relying on personal references and expressions of concern. The difference is similar to what type of gift you would buy for a girlfriend or boyfriend as opposed to a roommate or childhood friend. One would hope they are not the same gift.

Great poets in history have made a habit of writing verses to each other in response to a number of personal relationships. That is their way of paying respect their closest friends. If someone can buy a gift for a friend today, Shakespeare would write that person’s sonnets. Which is something Shakespeare did do on occasion. Sonnet 104, for example, talking to a close friend with whom he treasures three summers they spent together. The poem reads similar to many of his love sonnets, and in fact has been debated for some time because many people believe it’s actually a love poem.

He did not write about a close friend, but her soul and takes on many guises. However, the same can be said of a close friend who is never quite as stripped as we like to believe.

Ralph Waldo Emerson can be attributed to dozens of memorable quotes about what it means to be a friend and wrote many poems friendship in turn. However, if you ever feel the urge or desire to tell your friends what their friendship means to you, you have an inkling of what great poets like Emerson experienced when they sat down to pen their poems, and what better way to understand the poetry of friendship from it.

Here’s a little poem I wrote over 11 years ago. Before you ask, it was inspired by a girl, but the actual events that took place don’t match the poem exactly. Anyway, I was trying to go to sleep one night and kept tossing and turning with these words running through my head. I couldn’t get to sleep until I got up and put the words down on paper. I have a whole bookmark directory full of them. I read a lot of webzines and magazines and whenever I find something I like or makes me think I might write something, I bookmark it. I read Verse Daily almost every day and I bookmark the ones I really like. I’d recommend going to versedaily.org and reading through their archives, lots of good stuff and their tastes are very broad.
