This book is titled “Cat the Cat Who Is That?” by Mo Willems. A sign of emergent literacy is when a child can retell a favorite story. Mo Willems is one of my favorite authors for children books. My daughter likes to memorize her books and retell them to us. Although she is not exactly reading the words, she is showing signs of emergent literacy.

How about “The Big Orange Splot” by Daniel Pinkwater, or “Purple, Green and Yellow” by Robert Munsch? Those are two of my favorites about individuality/creativity.

Good luck!
