Ask and question

Was just reminded I was going to ask this…

If somebody comes to your house to give piano (or guitar, or singing, or whatever) lessons — how much do you spend on this? Per hour? Per month? How often do they come? At what age did you start? Etc. Perhaps also add if you’re in a big city or a rural area or what-have-you?
Thumbs up to all; input appreciated!

Piano and guitar lessons in our area are the same price for private in home instruction (meaning you take your child to the instructors home). I don’t actually know of anyone that has the instructor come to their own home. It’s just not a common thing here.

Anyway it’s typically right about $ 20 per hour and an hour per week is highly suggested or required of some instructors. Most people pay by month.

Oh- a lot of instructors I know suggest they start around 5 or 6 for piano or guitar. Most instructors don’t want to start giving singing lessons here until the child is 9 (much to my 8 yr olds disappointment).

*Not really a big city.. Smallish town but not rural. I sit between 2 big cities, though.

What do you think? Answer below!

    This is probably little to no help but I think my mom paid $ 25 for an hour long lesson once a week but this was 25 years ago. I went to the lady’s house every Wednesday; I took lessons from age 9-14. (She lived in a small city.)

    $ 25 / 30 minute lesson. He stated that the lesson would be 30 min to 45 min, depending on how much “fun” they were having. My son’s lessons are often 45 minutes – and my daughter’s are on the 30 minute side! I am in a small town.

    We are lucky insofar as both of the kids applied for a private lesson scholarship from the band booster club at school, and they both won. The scholarship covers half the cost of private lessons for them both.
    Daughter’s clarinet teacher charges $ 30 for half an hour ( so with the scholarship, we only pay $ 15 per session), and son’s trumpet instructor charges $ 20 per hour ( so we only pay $ 10).
    They go once a week. This is the second year that my daughter, 13 years old, has gone (she also got the scholarship last year), and the first year for my son, age 12.
    We live in a huge city, and there are many private teachers to choose from.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~
    wanted to add that last year when the scholarship ran out, we did stop the private lessons for awhile until we could rearrange the budget to allow for the full cost. The private teacher was THAT amazing, and the ground that they cover in that short amount of time is phenomenal.
    Completely worth it.
    Wow, I cannot believe how easy I’ve had it paying for piano lessons. My niece took lessons up until 2 years ago and we paid $ 10.00 per week for 1 hour lessons. (we went to the instructor) My LO is going to start lesson in the fall. We will use the same instructor and it’s the same fee. I never thought she was expensive but I didn’t realize her lessons were that cheap. We live in the suburbs.
    Hello,
    I have a Degree in Music from Berklee College of Music in Boston, and I teach ONLINE Voice, Piano, and Songwriting Lessons. I’ve been teaching for over 20 years.
    I charge $ 20/half-hour or $ 40/full-hour once a week.
    I’ve been teaching exclusively online since the beginning of 2010. Learning online has many perks… including, no commute, no strangers coming into your home, etc.
    It’s a normal music lesson just like usually, except I’m “in the box”. LOL
    Check out my website and let me know if you’d be interested in studying with me. MyMusicExpert.com
